New editions on time, every time
Since 1991 Pilothouse S-O-S has been helping vessels keep
their chart inventories up-to-date. The S-O-S active list now numbers over 150
subscribers, and is still growing. In 1999 we upgraded our computer system to provide even
better documentation than before -- documentation that will clearly show the status of
your chart and publication inventory, and will clearly demonstrate your intention to stay
up to date.
S-O-S is a subscription service which automatically brings you new
editions every month as they become available. It is a customized service, under your
control, based on the lists that you provide. It allows you to simplify your
paperwork while improving the service to your vessels.
What is the cost of S-O-S? The service is free. You pay only standard NOS
prices, plus mailing.
What about mailing? Our charge is a flat four dollars per package to ports in
the continental United States. Packages to Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and Alaska are
slightly higher.
What items are covered by S-O-S? Your lists can include NOS and NIMA (DMA) charts,
and navigational publications such as tide and current tables, coast pilots, and almanacs.
Is there a minimum list size? No. You set your list exactly as you want it.
Is there a long-term commitment? No. You can terminate any time you wish without
penalty. You stay in the system only as long as it serves your purposes.
What if our routes change? When your operations change, you simply let us know
which items to add and which items to remove. We will acknowledge by printing and mailing
your revised Master List.
How do we get started? For each of your vessels send us a Master List of the
inventory you want kept up-to-date, with the edition numbers and dates currently
on board. You may also want to include a list for your port office.
What happens next? We send you a printed confiirmation of your Master List, showing
all the items to be maintained, and their current edition dates. We also send a
confirmation of your Initial Shipment, showing those items you need immediately to bring
you to current-edition status. You should check both lists carefully, and notify us of any
corrections.
In a few weeks we will send your Initial Shipment. After that, you can expect a
Maintenance Shipment on a monthly basis, whenever there are new editions for you.
